40 Days of Summer Part 2

 Summer is doing it's usual British thing

With the weather being as awful as it is, do you need ideas for activities to keep your children busy during the bad weather? Reuseful UK is here to help! We have here 20 more activities to keep you busy and having fun this summer!

Activity 21: Phone cover

You will need

  • Clear cover for your phone or a clear plastic case
  • Buttons lots (You can use off cuts of plastic paper or anything you like.)
  • PVA Glue.

Activity 22: Whimsical Key Chains

You will need

  • Fabric scraps
  • Medium weight iron on interfacing
  • Small piece of Pellon Peltex one sided iron-on interfacing.  (This stuff is really stiff and is almost like cardboard but you can sew right through it. It’s awesome! You really only need a tiny bit so it shouldn’t break the bank.)
  • Twill tape or grosgrain ribbon
  • key ring
  • pinking shears
  • buttons, felt, for embellishing
  • thread, sewing stuff
  • something to make a pattern with, I traced a few of the round things in my sewing room to get some different shapes, and sketched out the oval.

Day 23: Painted plant pots

You will need

  • 4 inch peat pots
  • white acrylic paint or gesso
  • tempera paints
  • paintbrush
  • flowers
  • soil

Day 24: Butterfly toilet roll crafts.

First, you will need:

  • Bobunny dot cardstock
  • A toilet paper roll,
  • Bobunny double dot ribbon
  • Googly eyes
  • A 1.5 inch flower punch and a 1/2 inch circle punch
  • Glue
  • Scissors

Day 25: Kids' noisemaker activities

You will need.

  • Empty and dried soda bottle with label removed
  • Art supplies such as markers, paint, stickers and glitter
  • Pebbles, dried beans or dried rice
  • Glue

Day 26: Duct tape bag tutorial

You will need

  • Duct tape
  • White garbage sack for lining (any plastic bag would work--recycle those supermarket bags!)
  • Ruler
  • Pen
  • Scissors
  • Optional: button for flower centre, hot glue to attach it

You will need:

Day 28: DIY Slip-and-Slide

  • 50′ x 3′ heavy duty contractor drop cloth
  •  a package of U-shaped garden stakes
  • Several jugs of water

Day 29: Portable Kids’ Water Walls

You will need.

  • Garden gates. Or something you can move with ease.
  • Zip ties and/or wires
  • Buckets
  • Hoses
  • Rain gutters

Day 30: Make A Giant Outdoor Kerplunk Game From Tomato Cages

You will need.

  • 3 Tomato Cages .Or off cuts of wire !
  • Zip Ties
  • clear vinyl fabric (1/4 yard)
  • 20 PVC Pipes 36″ or 30″ in length (10 ft pole $1.78 each)
  • Primer (optional)
  • Spray Paint (optional: Blue, Green, Orange, Yellow, and Pink) (You can use normal paint)

Day 31: A Summer Bubble Paint Project

What you’ll need:

  • Tempera paint/ powder paint
  • Dish soap
  • White paper
  • Straws
  • Small containers

Day 32: Washer Necklaces

  • You will need: Washers from hardware store, ranging in size 1.5” to 2” diameter. I picked heavier ones made from stainless steel.

You will need:

Day 34: Bunting

We're doing an attempt on the Guinness World Record for the longest string of Bunting so why doing you try and make your own and help us by being a record breaker!

Day 35: Embroidery Eggs

You will need

  • Water balloons (or small regular ones)
  • Fabric stiffener

You will need:

Day 37: Glass Tile Pendant

Here's what you'll need...

  • Glass tile
  • A bail (the hook that goes on the back)
  • Paper/Fabric design or a photo
  • Diamond glaze
  • A small paintbrush

Day 38: Popsicle Paints

Here's what you'll need...

  • A container to make your paints in like an ice cube tray (as in the picture) or a real Popsicle container.

  • Food colouring
  • Popsicle sticks

Day 39: Mini Bug House

You need:

  • Bug Patterns
  • Mini Bug House

  • 6mm Googly Eyes

Day 40: Teach them how to sew

At some point, all of us will need to know how to sew so why not start them early.

Crazy Little projects has a 5 week course on their blog.

For this you will need:

Week 1

  • A notebook
  • About 1/2 yard of cute fabric to cover the notebook. (You probably won’t use all of the fabric.)
  • You can also get embellishments like ribbons & buttons

Week 2

  • About 1/3 yard of coordinating fabric for a very small messenger bag.
  • If you want to do a larger one get a yard of each fabric and some fuseable fleece.

Week 3

  • 1-2 yards of fun pyjama fabric (get 2 for an older child or a teen)
  • Elastic

Week 4

  • Tote bag
  • 1/4 yard each of 3 coordinating fabrics
  • Ribbon to embellish

Week 5

  • 1/4 each of 2 coordinating fabrics
  • 1 8 inch zip
